Another yummy time at Black Hoof. This time I went another one of my foodie buddies and everything was different. The menu of black hoof rotates which means you never get bored however if you like a dish like my previous foie gras, they disappear off the menu.
This time I tried to prepare myself to try the raw horse meat sammy and almost resigned myself to eat it except it was not on the menu. Secretly, I was relieved but I do promise the next time I will have the courage to try it.
Our Drink menu that evening
My friend chose the Hoof Manhattan. This drink was okay but not as special they would like you to believe. If you want to order something you are comfortable this is for you but for a unique drink order something else.
My drink of choice was the bloody valentine. This was a winner both of us loved this drink. It was fruity but too sweet.
Our menu on Feb 11/11 with the special a duck heart tartare.
Of course eating at the Hoof means ordering the charcuterie. This time the mousse wowed me, as did the bison salami. I find this dish contains something for everyone however, there are always a meat that is just okay.
To start off our main courses we tried the duck heart tartare with shaved foie gras. This dish was something I would normally be scared to try however it was amazing. I would not hesitate to order this dish again.
The Morcila and Mascarpone was delicious. Like the plating suggests you have to mix the morcila, sauteed onions and mascarpone to get the flavour. Another great dish and YUM.
This dish was the sweetbreads and truffled rapini. I have always been a bit scared to try sweetbreads but I loved the crispy and melting flavour of the Hoof's version. I loved this and think the portion was perfect. The rapini was also perfectly matched and done however I felt it lacked the Truffle they advertised.
Of course a night at the hoof would not be complete with out some seared foie gras. This time it came with marmalade on brioche toast. The foie gras was perfectly seared except my friend found a small vein piece. However, I thought on the toast and with marmalade it did not go as well as my previous one at the Hoof. I let them know I though the combo of foie gras and blood cake was superb.
All my previous pros and cons from before stand.
Overall, another wonderful night at the Black Hoof.
